All
the photographs are captioned - where appropriate - with their scientific names:
that is in Latin.
It's not so pretty, it's less romantic... I know.
Unfortunately it's the only way to refer to a given species unambiguously.
For all
those whose imagination would be more vividly stimulated by a more evocative epithet,
I have therefore provided tables of the common names of the species shown on the
site
- divided between 'plants', 'fungi' and 'animals' - in both French and English
(where known).
I would
greatly appreciate any comments to correct these lists and fill in the gaps.
Local names interest me equally (even in dialect - provided you supply an English
translation...).
However I do not undertake to include the latter in the tables.
Errors
and omissions excepted...
